Black Stars aim for Liberian glory
Monday, 26 July 2010

Ghana’s home-based national team will be looking to beat hosts, Liberia on Sunday to win the tri-nation tournament to commemorate the country's 163rd Independence. The Black Stars drew 1-1 with Guinea on day-two of the competition and now need a win against the host nation, who won 1-0 over the Sylli Nationale on the opening day, to seal glory.

Captain Edmund Owusu-Ansah put Ghana in the lead, striking the ball from 25 yards after 26 minutes against Guinea at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Stadium on Saturday.

Guinea would be left pleased and would count themselves lucky to have earned a point after the Black Stars failed to utilise the numerous goal scoring chances that they created.

Ghana's attack seemed to have lost a bit of the steam that they showed in the first half as the Sylli Nationale upped their game after the break.

Their renewed efforts paid off when Facinet Sylla scored the equaliser from the spot after Ghana had conceded a penalty after 62 minutes.

The Black Stars now need a win from the final game against Liberia to lift the trophy whereas the host nation needs only a draw to be crowned winners.
